The most beautiful dress I’ve ever made named after the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known, The Marta Dress featuring authentic antique embroidery from all around the world is named after my dear sweet mom. Born in Hungary just before the Revolution of 1956 and given a Spanish name by her parents who led her by moonlight to safety in Austria as a little girl, my mom and the endless legacy of resilience, love and folk art flowing through her veins has taught me everything I could ever need to know about art, life and motherhood. In this deeply special namesake dress I have pulled out all the stops, with a treasury of immaculately stitched birds, tulips, roses and marigolds in our favourite palette of red, yellow, pink and blue atop a crisp white cotton that will only get better with every wrinkle, wear and wash. Framed and decorated with the very last of my role of black vintage rickrack that I love so much and a recently found coral lace trim that I had to dust off in the back of the sewing store, this folk dress with it’s double patch and side seam pockets, swingy ruffle and classic tie straps  reminds me of everything I love about my mom and I’m so happy I was able to bring this piece to life.
